Back in The Day Chick-fil-A
Founded in 1946 by S. Truett Cathy. What is
now known as Chick-fil-A was once a small diner called the Dwarf Grill. The
first Chick-fil-A restaurant opened in a food court of the Greenbrier Mall in
Atlanta, Georgia. Chick-fil-A opened its first free-standing restaurant in
1986, moving away from mall food courts to a stand-alone building, which
allowed for greater brand visibility and customer engagement.
However, unlike Chris in the photo above, not everyone likes or loves Chick-fil-A. Ava, a
fellow CHEAR student says, “ Once I found out that they marinated their chicken
in pickle juice, I understood why I didn’t like it”.
Today, Chick-fil-A operates approximately 3,279 restaurants
across the United States and has expanded internationally with locations in
Canada, Puerto Rico, and the United Kingdom. The first item on the Chick-fil-A
menu was the Original Chicken Sandwich, which was introduced in 1964. This
sandwich was hand-breaded, pressure-cooked, and served on a toasty, buttery bun
with two pickle chips. While the classic Chick-fil-A sandwich remains a
favorite, the company continued to innovate and expand its menu. The introduction
of Chick-fil-A nuggets and the mouthwatering Chick-fil-A sauce further
solidified its property, appealing to a wide range of tastes and preferences.
The history of Chick-fil-A reflects how one small diner and a simple chicken
sandwich grew into one of the most recognized and respected fast-food chains in
the United States. From Truett Cathy’s first restaurant in 1946 to its
thousands of locations today, Chick-fil-A’s story is one of innovation, strong
values, and dedication to customer service. Its unique traditions, such as
being closed on Sundays, along with its memorable ”Eat More Chikin” campaign,
have helped shape its identity and set it apart in the fast-food industry.
Overall, the company’s journey demonstrates how a clear vision, consistent
quality, and commitment to principles can transform a single idea into a
nationwide success.
