Psalm 127:1 – “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.”
Psalm 127:1 reminds us that all human effort is ultimately dependent on YAH. No matter how skilled the builders are, if the Lord is not guiding the work, the labor can be empty. At the same time, architecture showcases human creativity, vision, and craftsmanship—the ways we imagine and shape the world around us. Every line, curve, and structure tells a story of thought, skill, and artistry.

Photography can capture that story. Through careful composition, lighting, and perspective, a photographer highlights not just the building itself but the thought and care behind it. A simple photo of a staircase, a window, or a doorway can reveal the creativity, precision, and intention of the builder. A photograph of a building becomes more than an image—it’s a celebration of craftsmanship that points back to the One who ultimately gives life and direction to all our efforts.

    Homework

If you can’t go out and take photos.

Choose 2 to 3 photos of buildings or structures from a magazine, book, or an online source. These should be clear images that show interesting architecture.

For each image, write one short paragraph explaining what makes the architecture stand out. In your paragraph, be sure to talk about:
    • Lines (straight, curved, leading lines, etc.)
    • Shapes and forms
    • Symmetry or balance
    • Light and shadows
    • Texture and materials
    • Perspective or angle of view

Your goal is to practice “seeing” architecture like a photographer, even when you are not the one taking the photo. Focus on how the design and the way it is photographed work together to create impact.
