Call-to-Action (CTA) & Buttons

Students will understand what a Call-to-Action (CTA) is, why it’s important for guiding visitors, and how to create and style buttons in Divi to encourage user engagement.

Scripture

Matthew 4:19 (HCSB) – “Follow me,” he told them, “and I will make you fish for people.”
→ Tie-in: Just as Jesus invited His disciples to follow Him, a good website invites visitors to take action — whether it’s signing up, contacting you, or exploring more.

Website Structure Basics

Review week 8

Ask:

Did you finish optimizing and adding images to your About and Contact pages?

Did you add alt text for each image?

Understanding CTAs
  • Definition: A Call-to-Action is an element that tells the visitor exactly what you want them to do next.

  • Common CTA examples:

    • “Contact Us”

    • “Shop Now”

    • “Learn More”

    • “Sign Up Today”

  • Where CTAs should appear:

    • Above the fold (top of the page)

    • Throughout the content

Designing Buttons in Divi
  • Live demo:

    • Add a Button module.

    • Set button text and link.

    • Customize colors, font, size, and hover effects.

  • Discuss button best practices:

    • Make it stand out from the background.

    • Use action-oriented language.

Keep text short and clear.

Class Activity – Add a CTA to Your Home Page
  • Students:

    1. Identify the primary action they want visitors to take on their site.

    2. Add a clear CTA with a button to their Home page.

    3. Add at least one secondary CTA elsewhere (e.g., on the About or Contact page).

Teacher circulates to ensure CTAs are visible, compelling, and linked correctly.

Homework
  1. Add at least one CTA to each page you’ve built so far.

  2. Test each CTA to make sure the link works.

  3. Write draft content for your Contact form (what info you’ll collect).
